Book Review: "One Day"

Last Monday I picked up a couple books from my local bookstore. I really had no idea of what I wanted when I walked in but this is one that I ended up coming out with. It is called "One Day" by David Nichols. I had NO idea that it was made into a movie as well, which actually comes out in August!  I will DEFINITELY be going to see it because I LOVED this book! I got it on Monday and finished reading it Wednesday. It is a quick read that you will not want to put down. I felt very much a part of the story and I feel like I could relate somehow. Here is a little synopsis of the storyline!

Basically, the story is about one girl, Emma, and a boy, Dexter, who go in and out of each others life constantly. They meet on July 15 the day they graduate from college and instantly are captivated by one another. The book goes year by year in each chapter on exactly July 15th of the following year. This gives you a glimpse into each of their lives and where they stand relationship wise. Emma and Dexter are complete opposites but always seem to gravitate towards one another even after not seeing each other for years. Dexter is the crazier of the two and Emma is the one who knows how to settle things down. The book goes through 20 years of their lives and ends just as quickly as it started.

Once again, I loved this book and would read it again. I'm really excited to see the movie as well! If you like love stories then you just have to read this. Let me know what you think of it if you do or if you've already read it! I'd love to see what other people think too!

Book Review #2

It's time for another book review! The last one was about Redeeming Love. I hope some of you picked up the book and read it! If you have since then, please comment me and tell me if you enjoyed it! Today my book of choice is... drum roll..

Captivating By John & Stasi Eldredge

This book is very well known and some even consider it controversial. However, it is still a great book to dive into and create your own opinion about! Here is a small synopsis:

This book is a follow up of John Eldredge's book Wild at Heart, basically the men's version of Captivating. John & Stasi try to speak to the deep down tired Christian woman in this novel. They write about the design of a woman by God and their purpose. They focus on what they believe to be women's three main desires; to be romanced, to play a role in her own adventure, and to unveil beauty. They also encourage men to discover the secret of a woman's soul and to delight in the beauty and strength that women were meant to offer.

I personally LOVED this book! I heard of it through my small group at church back when I was in the youth group. This book really did speak to me and I think John & Stasi are right in their beliefs. They bring scripture and biblicial stories into each theory they present and even relate them to popular movies or stories so we can better understand. I've read this book probably 5 times and still want to read it again. I have things underlined, highlighted, etc etc. I've loaned this book to my friends and my mother and even have given it to my boyfriend so he could read it and better understand me! After reading this book, I picked up the men version, Wild at Heart, and feel like it did help me understand God's meaning and creation of men as well. Book Review

I do love to read. I'm not a HUGE reader but I do love to collect and read books when I have the time. Today I want to share with you one of my favorite books of all time! Drumroll please..........

Redeeming Love By Francine Rivers

Now some of you have heard of this book over and over again, but SOME of you out there haven't! Here is a little synopsis of the book:

This romantic story is a retelling of the biblical story of Hosea. This heartbreaking romance stars a prostitute named Angel and a kind farmer named Michael Hosea. Angel was sold into prostitution as a child and has never been able to trust men. Michael is a very spiritual and godly man who is told by God that he must marry the "soiled dove", Angel. Though despite his protests, Michael obeys. Through struggles, Angel slowly starts to trust Michael and truly love him but then gets overwhelmed with fear and returns to her old ways. This story is not only about Angel falling in love with Michael but also falling in love with God. And Michael not only being obedient to God's commands, but falling in love with his own angel. 

I LOVE this book! I've read it multiple times and have loaned it out many times! This story is so easy to relate to simply by being a woman! The majority of us doubt ourselves so much and do not place much confidence and love in ourselves. Some of us don't even think we are WORTHY to be loved by God or a man. This is so far from the truth! This book will bring you to tears and instill in you the confidence that we should all possess. Let me know if you do read it and how you like it!
